(UK, 1141606) Browse eventsAfter a seven year fight, we have saved our historic library - uniquely opened by Mark Twain in 1900 - and now ask for your help to keep it open. Please be part of our future! We have harnessed local passion for our library into grassroots, campaigning action. Despite the odds, we have regained most of the ground floor, rent-free for the community. This space would otherwise have been turned into private flats.Having prevailed, FKRL now urgently seeks funding for the first year operation of the library £40,00,000 (an ongoing annual cost). We have already raised over £200,000 for its refurbishment and need, approximately, another £70,000 to complete the fit out. After fighting for so long, please help our community open a library and public space it deserves and needs, at a time of severe austerity cuts.Thank you.
