Beth's inspiration was set up after the tragic loss of Beth to Hodgkin Lymphoma, aged 24, in November 2013. We raise money to give cancer sufferers any little luxury that they may want or to help with more practical things such as travelling or accommodation expenses whilst undergoing treatment.
Ashley Educational Trust was set up in 1978 to promote educational projects which foster a greater appreciation of personal freedom and responsibility along with an effective concern for others. It encourages young and old alike to volunteer their time and skills for service projects and provides opportunities to help increase their social awareness. We believe Christian principles contribute to character development and are the basis of good society, and we try to foster virtues such as loyalty, service and integrity in all of our activities. Coniston Hall university residence and Ashley Catering establishment are major projects of AET. Coniston offers a range of opportunities to complement the university experience and contributes to the all-round development of young women. In addition to an atmosphere conducive to study and intellectual enquiry, it provides possibilities of cultural and spiritual development. From day one, educational projects for the benefit of the local community have been promoted from Coniston Hall in Longsight, Ardwick, Hulme, Moss Side and Wythenshawe; Coniston Hall founded one of the original homework clubs in inner-city Manchester. Over 400 residents and other students have helped thousands of beneficiaries.
Our Mission and goal is to provide affordable, high quality early childhood education and immediate, on-site family support services in a stable and nurturing environment, thereby providing the children of homeless and low-income working families skills and hope for lifelong development. Our Vision is for more Bay Area children and families to have the opportunity and skills to maintain stable, healthy lives, realize their potential and better contribute to their community. This mission and vision continues a tradition first established in 1900 by the Sisters of the Holy Family. Of our 154 families served, 107 are homeless, formerly homeless, or low-income, 53% of families are earning less than the median income and 30% of families fall below the state poverty threshold. HFDH holds the most homeless childcare contracts for infants and toddlers in the entire city, more than Glide and Compass Family Services. With that in mind, we take the utmost care to provide comprehensive family support services that address the needs of all our families. 75% of families take advantage of these services and 98% of our homeless families follow their case plans managed by our social services team to find housing, job placement, and recovery services.
