(UK, 1143940) Browse eventsPaballong UK Trust was established in 2010 so that we could help those in Lesotho, a small country in southern Africa, who suffer from HIV and Aids. Our main purpose is 'the relief of poverty in Lesotho, specifically among those who are severely disadvantaged and infected or affected by HIV/Aids'. We support the operations of the Paballong Centre which has been fully equipped since 2007. The Centre now has a staff complement of 31 who provide voluntary counselling and testing, antiretroviral therapy, and the treatment of opportunistic diseases, including TB. Since 2008 all services have been provided for free. To date there have been some 31,000 visits by nearly 4,500 clients of whom 1,031 on ART. It has tested the HIV status of 2,153 people, provided 10,422 treatments for opportunistic diseases, and offered maternity and family planning programmes to 1,528 clients. Nearly 22,500 free lunches have been provided. Paballong has moved on enormously from its original aim: while meeting the needs of HIV and Aids patients and their care-givers is still the primary purpose of the Centre, substantial efforts have been made to use the Centre in other ways, for example improving socio-economic opportunities for local communities.
