The objective the Institute of Disease Prevention is to promote the prevention and control of diseases in human beings by using quality improvement methodology to deliver systematic and sustainable improvement in the quality of primary health care, the community and other community services through educational and awareness campaigns. Institute of Disease Prevention has joined forces with Australian Anti Ice Campaign (AAIC) to help fight the ICE epidemic here in Australia. Australia is currently experiencing the worst drug epidemic in history. The drug ICE that comes from the Amphetamine family of illegal drugs is affecting individuals and families across the whole of country. The drug is highly potent and addictive. Addicts are getting hooked on this destructive drug even after trying it once. It is suggested that the number of people addicted to ICE is over 100,000 but it is near difficult to get the correct number. Institute of Disease Prevention is raising vital funds in order to support AAIC’s National Education Program. Experienced communicators will be doing presentations in High Schools to educate the students on the dangers of the drug. The participants will learn the short and long term effects, the danger and toxicity of the ingredients, the effects of ICE on the brain, body, relationships and community. Please help us to “PUT THE FREEZE ON ICE”.

Just over 600 children are diagnosed with childhood cancer each year in Australia. Tragically, 3 of those children will lose their battle with cancer every week. Medical research is the key to finding a cure for childhood cancer and ultimately putting an end to this heart breaking situation. Many people and organisations generously support childhood cancer research. Lions Australia has been supporting childhood cancer research at least as far back as 1976. Lions formalised its support for childhood cancer research over 13 years ago by establishing the Lions Cord Blood & Childhood Cancer Research Appeal, the forerunner to ALCCRF which was established at the 57th MD Convention in Melbourne in May 2009 as a category "A" Project. ALCCRF's vision is 100% survival of kids with cancer. Today survival rates average 80%. There is much work that still needs to be done, if one day we are to prevent all kids with cancer from dying. Funds you and your clubs donate to ALCCRF will go to the best childhood cancer research conducted right across Australia which specifically targets improved survival rates. We believe every child deserves a chance at a healthy life and we can all do our bit to help. Thank you, Dr Joseph Collins, ALCCRF Chairman
