Making The Change was founded as a pilot project to provide support to 16-18 year old young offenders who had completed the custodial part of their sentence. The intention was to help prevent repeat offending, and allow young men to become active contributing members of the community. Support was provided in a residential setting. In 2010, the trustees identified suitable premises and in January 2011, Brent Knoll House in Bristol was opened. The house was run with dedicated staff, who provided support to the young men whilst they were resident in the house, and in some cases, in the time following their departure. The trustees commissioned an independent report on the project to be carried out by the University of Gloucestershire. The project has the full support of the Chief Constable and Police and Crime Commissioner for Avon and Somerset. When the project was established, the Youth Justice Board agreed to provide a grant for three years, representing approximately 45% of the running costs. The trustees were able to raise the remaining costs from companies, charitable trusts and individual donations, and had considerable local support. In February 2013, the Youth Justice Board, with only six weeks notice terminated the grant agreement with effect from 31 March 2013, nine months before the completion of the three year project. The project was able to continue until 31 August 2013, using funds which the Trustees had raised. However the premature withdrawal of the Youth Justice Board grant meant that the Trustees were unable to complete the pilot project as planned. The Trustees do not consider that they have received from the Youth Justice Board a full and satisfactory explanation of why they chose to curtail the grant early. They are particularly disappointed that the success of the project and hard work that they and the staff had put into the project appeared to be ignored by the Youth Justice Board. The successful progress of the project had been recognised in the interim report from the University of Gloucestershire, which had been shared with the Youth Justice Board. The Trustees would like to thank all those who have supported their attempt to find a way of reducing re-offending by young people.
(UK, 291107) Browse eventsBethany Village Leprosy Society (BVLS) is a small, UK-based charity which raises funds to support positive social development and welfare programmes in a self-established and run south Indian leprosy colony called Bethany. BVLS helps Bethany to find alternatives to begging for the 1,000 or so people resident there, who, because of the stigma associated with leprosy, have difficulty in finding alternative employment. We provide funds to help run the communitys clinic, elementary school and a range of income generation schemes -- including the production of bags and table linen -- as well as direct funding for the healthy sons and daughters of people affected by leprosy to undertake vocational training or degree-level education. All this support helps Bethany move towards its goal of self-sufficiency. As a small charity, run entirely by volunteers, BVLS sends all donations 100% to Bethany, covering its minimal administrative costs from a small proportion of regular supporters membership fees.

House to House (H2H) in depth bible studies with Rod Anderson have been audio recorded here and Mission Prayer School (MPS) prayer teachings from Julie Anderson available which accompany the Above it All (AIA) tv programs that were mostly filmed there. These can be viewed on line where they are archived at www.rodandjulie.com/above-it-all. (see drop down menu for programs) Our new online ministry includes www.theprayergarden.org - an interactive website which has already received over one million visitors. Currently we have translations into other languages for this site, and are wanting to develop it for the new TPF apps for phones. The idea is for a new interactive help for children and youth with scripture prayers, to facilitate this incredibly fruitful way of touching thousands of lives with fresh faith to pray and strength to achieve. Rod and Julie Anderson also lead a growing and thriving church group who meet every Sunday in the West End of London, and are excited about their faith in Jesus.
