Wheldrake Recreation Association manages the Wheldrake Village Hall and amateur sports facilities in the beautiful Yorkshire village of Wheldrake, near York. Wheldrake Village Hall provided a valuable hub for local residents and nearby communities but, in March 2015, we found structural faults in the roof. It was unsafe and the building had to close. This was a serious blow as it was the centre of village life, hosting the playgroup, sports clubs, after school club, toddler group, bowls club, etc. The roof finally collapsed in November causing a great deal of internal damage. The contents of the hall suffered both from the crash and water damage. The bill for the replacement of the roof and contents consumed all our own resources, so we had to borrow, and now we need to repay loans kindly made by local people.
