There is almost no free schooling in Indonesia. With half of the country's 240 million people living on less than £1.25 per day, education is all too often a 'luxury' that families cannot afford. As a result, 40% of indonesian children do not continue their education beyond primary school. JEF covers the education costs of Indonesian children who would otherwise drop out of school. JEF has already helped to improve the lives of dozens of children whom it has sponsored to go to school. Four of JEFs alumni are currently at university, where one is studying graphic design, two are studying communications, and another is training to be a teacher. Other JEF alumni have found work in a range of jobs which would have been beyond their reach had they not graduated from high school. They include one who is working as an IT programmer and another who is a junior accountant in a market research company. JEF was founded, and is run by, Tessa Piper, a British national who is the Jakarta-based Asia Director of a US media development non-profit organization who has lived and worked in Indonesia for almost 20 years and speaks fluent Indonesian. Tessa's management of the foundation involves extensive interaction with the children who receive educational support from JEF, and she maintains contact with them throughout their years of sponsorship and often for long afterwards. She does this through regular meetings with the children, during which she assesses their progress both in and out of school. This includes reviewing with each of the children their six monthly school reports, based on which they together agree achievable targets for improvement designed to help them to achieve their full potential. 100% of all money donated to JEF is used to cover the education costs of the children and the number of children assisted through JEF is only limited by the funds available. If you would like to help a child to get the education they deserve, please donate whatever you can, and JEF will do the rest.

Who we are We are a collaborative and imaginative NGO, connecting a community of nuns, teachers and school girls in downtown Port-au-Prince with a group of designers, architects, documenters and development planners associated with University College London’s Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction. What we do Together we have completed the design for the permanent reconstruction of Centre Rosalie Javouhey - a girls' school complex destroyed in the 2010 earthquake. This inspiring, sustainable, replicable and multi-functional educational complex in the heart of Haiti's capital city will accommodate 1,250 girls, their teachers and staff. We are documenting this process in short films that capture this unique journey, and hope to share its lessons with other development practitioners, other disaster victims, and all those with a passion for breaking down international barriers in the name of equitable and sustainable development. Why we need your support Currently, Centre Rosalie is operating out of small, temporary buildings, with reduced admissions, no clean drinking water and not enough classrooms, toilets and kitchen facilities to accommodate the demand. This school serves some of Port-au-Prince's most disadvantaged girls, many of whom were extremely traumatised by the 2010 earthquake, suffering injuries, anxiety and stress, and losing relatives and homes. By helping us raise funds to rebuild the school, you will enable 1,250 girls to develop their minds and recover from the trauma in this inspiring and uniquely nature-surrounded school, designed and built in the social and physical context of the region. Every penny we raise will go towards getting this school built and ensuring these children get the education they deserve. There are many ways you can help. Here are a few ideas...
