(UK, 1040162) The Rotary Club of Truro, established in 1922 is the oldest Rotary Club in Cornwall and is today a vibrant organisation fully committed to service in the local community. It is also a fast growing Club with a membership comprising men and women from businesses in and around Truro. We enjoy our Rotary! The Rotary Club of Truro is very active and has a number of programmes which involve members giving help to the young, to the elderly and to disabled people. In addition they hold major annual fund raising events which include a Pancake Race, Santa Run and sponsored walks raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care, The James Parkinson Centre Cornwall, Cornwall Hospices, Ellas Memory, Cornwall Disabled Association and other local and international charities. This year they have helped raised £1000s for The Poppy Appeal.Ours is part of an International organisation which launched Shelterbox and supports the eradication of Polio worldwide.

We work with individuals and businesses to address market failures – the constraints that prevent a market system from operating efficiently. These constraints may include skills, technologies, availability of information, market linkages, access to finance, infrastructure, governance or policies. We address market failures in three ways: Develop Capacity: We help individuals and communities acquire skills, share knowledge and apply the technologies needed to build successful farms and businesses. Strengthen Market Connections: We coordinate among industry players and connect emerging businesses and farms to capital, networks and suppliers. Improve the Business Environment: We encourage self-sustaining economic activity by addressing the policies, information and incentives that help markets function better. In 2012 we supported over half a million farmers and over 1,500 businesses to realise more than $70M in incremental revenue, which resulted in over 9,000 new jobs and $10M in incremental wages. Together we estimate that this benefitted 2.9 million men, women and children.

The charity supports poor Nepali communities to take responsibility for their own health. For 14 years we have been establishing a range of health-related services in the most disadvantaged areas of Nepal. Projects have particularly focused on improving maternal and infant survival and health. The charity has built strong working relationships with local communities, other NGOs and Nepal’s government. We also have a strong women's rights agenda and aim to empower women to know and stand up for their rights, and to reduce violence against women and girls in rural communities.
