Pat Cronin was a 19 year old boy who was taken away far too soon by a senseless act of violence through a single ‘Cowards Punch’, following a brawl at a bar in Diamond Creek on 16 April where Pat was struck while assisting a mate despite having no involvement in the fight that was going on. In his honour, the Pat Cronin Foundation has been established with three objectives: • To build awareness of the incidence of ‘Cowards Punch’ attacks to make this behaviour socially unacceptable • To provide education to get the message out that it is time to end this senseless violence and to equip people, in particular teenagers and young adults, with prevention strategies to ensure these incidents don’t occur, • To fund research into social behaviour in Australia to uncover and promote prevention strategies.

We have two orchestras - our Main Orchestra, for players of 11 years and over, and a Training Orchestra for younger and less experienced musicians. Based in Wimbledon since 2003, both Orchestras rehearse weekly during term time and give 3 concerts a year in some of the best venues in and around London. Our Musical Director is Robert Hodge, assisted by Dan Shilladay who conducts the Training Orchestra. Stoneleigh Youth Orchestra is a independent organisation, and as such, we receive no national or local authority funding. Our day to day activities are financed by members' subscriptions, so we are reliant on our own fundraising and the generosity of our supporters which enable us to enhance the experience of playing in the orchestra by running intensive coaching sessions, workshops, and an annual tour.

(UK, 1162349) Browse eventsOperating since 2008, Stepping Stones is a charity (1162349) dedicated to helping vulnerable women and their children turn their lives around. With a base in Luton and outreach in Central Bedfordshire we are a women-centred organisation In the UK, 1 in 3 women over 16 has experienced domestic abuse. 2 women a week are killed by a partner or ex-partner. Shockingly, 1/5th of children are exposed to domestic abuse either directly or as a witness. There were over 12,000 domestic abuse related incidents and crimes in Bedfordshire in 2017/18 alone. (Office for National Statistics). Every year we support almost 600 women and their children who face multiple disadvantages and deprivations such as poverty, ill-health, substance misuse, domestic abuse and mental health issues. 80% have experienced domestic abuse and 63% are unemployed. Over the last year we have seen an increase in issues around mental health, finance and debt, all affecting the ability of women achieving independence. In many cases the families we support have children on Child Protection registers or Children in Need Plans. Our compassionate support enables these vulnerable women to recover from trauma and take positive decisions to reduce future risks. Those affected are living in fear, often becoming isolated from family and friends. They live with conflicting emotions of anger, shame and resentment, reducing their self-esteem and often leading to depression. Many cannot afford to leave their abusive partner even if they wanted to. Domestic abuse has a devastating impact on children and young people leading to behavioural and emotional problems that can last into adulthood. Children who have witnessed abusive relationships can become involved in such relationships in later life, as victims or perpetrators.
