Racehorse Rehoming Centre (UK, 1111160) Browse events

YTD Raised: £6,855.81

Racehorse Rehoming is set in the village of Combe St Nicholas, Nr Chard on the edge of the Blackdown hills in Somerset. We are a dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of former ex-racing thoroughbreds, who for whatever reason have fallen on hard times after a career in racing. Over 3000 horses leave the racing industry every year, where do they all go? Some are lucky enough to find good homes, others are sent to markets and are sold for Pounds to the meat man, when once they were worth thousands. But most are sent to slaughter, for no other reason than they have not made the grade or have passed their best in performance on the track. We cannot save them all, but we are here to do our bit for these underestimated creatures, who do not deserve the label of being difficult/flighty to retrain. They take very well to a slower more relaxed pace of life and make wonderful pleasure horses and are more than capable of competing to a high level in other equine disciplines, such as eventing, showing, show jumping and dressage. We are totally self-funded, relying on donations and fundraising events, we receive no funding from any other welfare organisations. All horses remain in the ownership of the charity for life, where possible they are put out on permanent loan to caring experienced owners. If not suitable for re-homing, they remain here at the charity for the rest of their days. We are honored to have as permanent residents a Royal Ascot winner and a winner of the Welsh National now entering their latter years. Alongside others who due to injuries sustained in racing are unable to be re-homed as riding horses. Thank you for taking the time to read about our charity, if you would like to know more about our work you can find us on.
