This service began in 1992 to help the members of this community access professional counselling (via our 40 volunteer counsellors) who would otherwise be unable to do so.Hastings is a coastal area with high levels of deprivation (defined as 'the damaging lack of material benefits considered to be basic necessities in a society') experienced by a large proportion of the community.Determinants of deprivation e.g. unemployment, poverty are all known to impact negatively on emotional well-being. Please donate to support our cause.Each year over 600 clients pass through our doors, trying to cope with difficulties that include domestic abuse, physical, mental and sexual abuse, suicidal ideation, self-harm, depression, anxiety and more. We provide a safe, warm space for our clients to start understanding destructive patterns enabling them to make positive changes in their lives.“My counsellor helped me reflect on my past actions and how they brought me to my current state, she helped me realise which path I need to take to get over the violence in my life”‘When my counselling started it is no exaggeration to say I was in a complete state of despair,over the weeks my counsellor’s gentle and nurturing help,I have come to terms with bereavement,loss,rejection and low self esteem.I am a different person who is completely astounded by such a successful outcome after what is just 13 weeks. Our Mission is to provide homeless individuals and families with the resources and opportunities by which to attain residential, financial and personal stability and self-sufficiency. The FKOC further seeks to address the underlying causes of homelessness and work toward its elimination.
