We are fundraising to create a new Aviation Museum on the Isle of Wight. "No single centre exists where the extensive history of aviation on the Island can be exhibited, seen and experienced by the public and visitors". Working in partnership with our member groups and with support from the public, our aim is to occupy Hangar No2 at Sandown Airport, to create our first aviation museum. The museum will be free to enter and our Directors, Trustees & staff are all volunteers and aviation enthusiasts. We will illustrate the history of aviation on the Island which spans over 100 years and will allow us to display our current exhibits, as well as build our collection for the future. We will also recognise the unique contribution made by ATA First Officer Mary Ellis in WW2, as well as her instigation of regular airline services to Sandown Airport. We also plan to unite two special icons of Island engineering excellence, the Spartan 3-seater and the Britten-Norman Islander. To showcase the diversity of the Islands aerospace history, we have created a full scale replica of Britain's biggest space rocket, the Black Arrow, for public display. The rockets were built and tested on the Isle of Wight during the 1960's and are the fastest vehicles ever produced in the UK, travelling at 20 times the speed of sound. We'll also have a pro-active outreach programme working with education provider across the region, engaging with students in key areas such as Maths, Science and Engineering, helping to inspire the next generation. Please donate to help us achieve this goal.
