Healthworks aims to preserve, protect and improve the health and life outcomes of communities across the North East of England. We support people of all ages to lead a healthier life; from being more active, to eating healthily, giving up smoking, managing diabetes, improving mobility and managing existing health conditions. Formed in 1995, Healthworks has grown from a charity based in the west end of Newcastle to an organisation that delivers services across the region. Much of our work is in areas recognised as being largely disadvantaged, where quality of life is reduced either by ill health or disability. Those health inequalities are caused by low income, unemployment, lack of opportunity and lower educational achievement, poor housing and child poverty.
We accomplish our mission through the publication of The San Diego Participant Observer online magazine, the producing of events such as the Harmony & Motion International Music and Dance Festival and the Harmony in Action Cross-cultural Non Profit

Rotary is an organisation that has been around for over 100 years. Interestingly it is not a British institution but in fact originated in America and is now International. It's primary function is to help others, it's motto is "service above self" and like most mottos sets very high ideals, however we do raise money for local and international appeals as well as help people reach their potential. If you like to help others then you will find many of a similar mind in Rotary and I am sure you will make strong friendships, in fact one of the best rewards for our work is the fellowship and friendship that you get from other members.
