NLTSG was set up to provide support for people who had been living with HIV and AIDS for 5 or more years. In the early 1990's, when the organisation was formed, reaching 5 years with an HIV diagnosis was something of a milestone and the organisation provided support to those who were dealing with an uncertain future and coping with the loss of loved ones and friends. New therapies have meant that many now live for much longer but this has not made the work of the group any less relevant. Apart from dealing with a potentially fatal disease, those affected by HIV have to cope with powerful drug therapies, stigma surrounding the disease as well as many other issues.

(UK, SCO27164) Tain Youth Cafe YMCA is a registered charity which aims to provide a safe, non-judgemental environment where all young people are welcomed, nurtured and listened to. The Youth Cafe seeks to provide a safe environment, as well as quality programmes and events, aimed at the physical, social, mental and spiritual development. The mission statement of the Tain Youth Cafe YMCA is to release the potential of children and young people and to reach out and engage with more vulnerable young people from within the area. The Tain Youth Cafe YMCA is split into three areas offering a Coffee bar, a large function hall for events and an upstairs meeting room, which can also be used by community groups in the area. The facility is for the benefit of all young people in Tain and surrounding rural villages. The Youth Cafe YMCA is open four lunchtimes per week and six evenings per week. The evening activities are a mixture of specialist programmes for Children and Young people and Drop-in nights for young people of secondary school age, there are also specialised fund raising programmes and events. As well as offering social evenings we also provide educational, social and development programmes via the transitions work with those in Primary schools and the additional needs groups who use the YMCA, the Youth Cafe takes part in and hosts a wide range of community events and regular fundraising activities. Young people are encouraged to take ownership and members of the Youth Committee take part in the decision-making processes, via attending the Board of Management meetings. Tain Youth Cafe YMCA is the hub of the community for children and young people.
