Society of Scottish Artists (UK, SC009586) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Society of Scottish Artists (SSA) was established in 1891 to ‘represent the more adventurous spirit in Scottish Art’. Its aims and objectives have evolved since those beginnings to include the representation of art from other countries and a more open arena for contemporary art activity across Scotland. SSA is an artist-led membership organisation governed by an elected President and elected Council consisting of around twelve members of the Society. Specialist professionals are co-opted onto Council to assist on particular projects. SSA continues its tradition of holding an Annual Contemporary Open Exhibition in the Royal Scottish Academy Gallery (RSA) in Edinburgh. Installation, video, computer and performance art alongside a strong core of works in traditional media result in challenging and invigorating shows. In an art-world where the divide between "new genres" and "traditional media" has rarely been wider, the SSA plays a unique and vital role in bridging the gap. Each year the SSA selects a number of graduating students from the Scottish art college degree shows to exhibit in the Annual Exhibition. SSA recognised the benefits of an integral education programme in its formative years and this groundbreaking policy has continued and strengthened to the present day, involving school groups, artist talks, workshops and gallery tours. Crossroads Care Manchester is a a leading provider of support for carers and people they care for in the city of Manchester and Tameside. We work with over 400 familes and individuals, helping carers find time for themselves through the provision of high quality care packages, including personal care to people with highly complex needs. We provide the special quality of care that gives our clients the peace of mind to let someone else step in to their shoes and support the person they love. As a charity we value the support of the communities in which we work so that we can reach out to more carers. The more individuals and companies that can donate funds or time to help us, the more people we can support. People like Eddie and Dot. Dot had been Eddies carer for over 30 years when she was taken into hospital to have a knee replacement. All of a sudden the tables were turned and it was Dot who needed care for herself and reassusrance that Eddie would be looked after too. Crossroads were there for Eddie when Dot was in hospital, and are still there for both Eddie and Dot now that Dot has returned home. Our care will continue until Dot is fully recovered. There are thousands of people in the Manchester area just like Eddie and Dot who really need your help. Thank you, your support really makes a difference.

We have a zest for making a meaningful difference to young people’s life chances. Help us to achieve our goal! We are Medway Youth Trust, a charity with big aspirations for young people and our community. Our mission is quite unashamedly bold; to improve the life chances of young people. Every young person is unique. Whether a young person is achieving and living within a supportive family or whether they are struggling and face multiple barriers to their progression, they all require support and challenge to become the best they can be. So, we provide both open access and more targeted support. We provide vital support to some of the most vulnerable young people in our society; for example young homeless people, young people not attending school, looked after children, young parents and young people in custody. We provided support to young people who are trying to cope with a difficult experience; for example bereavement, relationship breakdown at home, and bullying. But we also provide support for gifted and talented young people who are unsure about their own aspirations. It is absolutely key to our charity’s work we are independent and impartial of any statutory agency because it means that the activities, information, support, guidance and advice we provide to young people is in their best interests and relevant to their lives, skills and aspirations. We also provide programmes which re-engageme young people, we help them develop employability skills and we work with employers to create work for young people. We help young parents get back in to learning and we provide small grants to young people in or leaving care where a little money can make a big difference. Young people are at the heart of our charity with two young Trustees, in addition to a young people's forum. We have a saying within Medway Youth Trust... "we start at the ends". We know the end results we seek to achieve. We are dedicated to achieving them. We need you to help!
