YTD Raised: $8,335.29

The purpose of the Day of Difference Foundation is to reduce the incidence and impact of children's critical injury in Australia. · Approximately 1000 children are hospitalised each week, with around 6000 children critically injured each year · Injury is the leading cause of death for children aged 1-14 · In 2006, the Federal government identified child injury as a priority issue but to date, nothing has been done to improve the situation · Mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters of an injured child are all affected with issues including anxiety, depression, relationship breakdown and addictions · There is currently no standardised system of care for the families of injured children In partnership with the University of Sydney, the Day of Difference Foundation is presently funding the 6 year, $1m Paediatric Critical Injury Research Program. This pioneering research program, led by Associate Professor Kate Curtis, will gather the evidence to improve the system of care for critically injured children and their families. Research includes an Australian-first data collection of all children admitted to the Emergency Department of every hospital in Australia in the last ten years, as well as a comprehensive review of the ‘trauma journey’ of children, their parents and siblings. By the end of the research program, we will understand the challenges faced from the moment the child is injured until after he or she returns home. With this information, we’ll be able to advocate interventions and recommendations to reduce the incidence and impact of children’s critical injury in Australia. We can't stop accidents; but we may be able to reduce the number of accidents. We can't stop the enormous impact a child's critical injury has on a family but we can take greater care of the families. The Day of Difference Foundation keeps supporters, health professionals and the public informed on our website www.dayofdifference.org.au

YTD Raised: $8,329.15

The Mental Illness Fellowship is Victoria’s leading membership-based not-for-profit organisation and our mission is to work with people with mental illness, their families and friends to improve their well being. Our vision is of a society in which mental illness will be understood and accepted. In living our vision, the Mental Illness Fellowship Victoria is guided by the following values: Honesty, Acceptance, Equity, Flexibility, Commitment and Participation. We work closely within communities and embrace in our work the contributions of people affected by mental illness. The Mental Illness Fellowship believes that:     * Everyone will be affected by mental illness either directly or indirectly       mental illness remains the last great taboo of society. For everybody’s sake we must stop the stigma associated with mental illness     * People with a mental illness should be treated as equal and valuable individuals, who can and do contribute economically, socially, artistically and culturally to our society. The Mental Illness Fellowship exists to make a real and positive difference in the lives of people affected by mental illness through:     * Working with people with mental illness, their families and friends to achieve their own defined outcomes.     * Providing a range of effective and innovative services in conjunction with health professionals providing treatment.     * Creating a research agenda into the impacts of mental illness       giving people a voice for change, a chance to end the stigma and to improve their quality of life. The Mental Illness Fellowship was started as the Schizophrenia Fellowship of Victoria in 1978 by families of people with a mental illness who wanted to make a difference. We now have a deep rooted and long history of success and innovation. In 2001 it changed its name, and logo, to the Mental Illness Fellowship Victoria both to reflect the broader work of the organisation and to speak more directly on the impact of mental illness in people’s lives.
