Communities In Schools (CIS) of Tacoma helps students achieve by alleviating the academic and non-academic barriers that can prevent students from reaching their full potential. CIS is the nation’s largest drop-out prevention organization with years of experience determining the early warning signs to help youth stay in school and graduate. The majority of the students we serve live in poverty, are homeless, have poor nutrition and health, move often, are dealing with toxic stress in their life, been abused, and lack motivation to do well in school. These factors effect student’s future success in their life. We help them overcome these obstacles by providing basic resource assistance, hands-on STEM based enrichment programs, mentor opportunities, tutoring assistance and internship programs to build leadership and other marketable job skills.
