Docklands Sinfonia is a young and exciting new symphony orchestra which has become a major cultural force in London’s dynamic Docklands. Since its formation in January 2009 by musical director Spencer Down, the orchestra has enjoyed incredible success with performances at Buckingham Palace for the Queen, the Royal Albert Hall with Grammy-award winner Imogen Heap and the House of Lords. The orchestra has worked with high profile artists from renowned trumpeter Alison Balsom to cello virtuoso Leonard Elschenbroich as well as organisations including the English National Ballet, Royal Opera House and National Youth Theatre. Docklands Sinfonia has appeared on BBC1 and BBC Radio 3, as well as performing regular sell-out concerts with world-class soloists at St Anne's, Limehouse. The orchestra is particularly proud of its educational parternship with young musicians in the London Borough of Hackney. Over the coming year, we are looking to expand our educational projects in the area.

The West Oxfordshire Vetka Association based in West Oxfordshire but with members nationwide supports schools, hospitals and sustainable developments in Vetka District in Belarus. This area is the place in the world worst affected by the nuclear fallout from the Chernobyl disaster. It will be two generations before radiation levels in parts of Vetka District reach acceptable levels and 244,000 years before they return to pre-Chernobyl levels. This small local charity working in the radiation fallout zone of Vetka, Belarus (White Russia) was formed in 2001 by a small group of people concerned for the welfare and future of a people whose lives had been devastated by the Nuclear accident at Chernobyl in 1986. The area remains, to this day, one which is struggling with the aftermath. Large areas still remain closed to the population because of the very high radiation levels. The charity’s current project is to rebuild and refurbish a building used by children with a range of Physical and Mental Disabilities including, Hydrocephalus, Cerebral Palsy, Sight and Hearing problems, and a wide range of learning difficulties.
