The James Gillespie’s Trust promotes the welfare of James Gillespies High School and aims to establish mutually beneficial relationships between the school, its alumni and its community. The Trust supports excellence, a central ethos of the school, and has assisted various projects initiated by students and staff in science, drama and sport. Earlier this year, the Trust worked with the school to create a collection of piano solos played by students that is now available on the ‘Fidelis et Forte’ CD (http://www.jamesgillespiestrust.com/news.php). The Trust promotes and assists the school’s long-term relationship with Zwelibanze High School in South Africa that embodies the concept of global citizenship that is held very strongly within the school. During the Heritage lottery funded ‘Living Stories’ oral history project, the Trust established connections with many former pupils. These links are ongoing and the Trust has hosted open afternoons and tours for former pupils. The Trust needs ongoing funds to continue these activities and is aiming to raise £10,000 in 2011.
