(UK, 1124434) Browse eventsVi – Ability Youth Group is an independent charity supporting blind and visually impaired children and young people in the Tyneside region. Sight is arguably the most important of our senses, without it the world would be a very different place. Imagine for a moment how your own life would be affected if you woke one morning, opened your eyes and there was nothing but darkness. This is what it is like for some of our children all day every day, week after week and year after year. Many of us will know of someone who is losing their sight through an age related condition, it is of course quite serious and can be very traumatic. However, few people will actually know of a young person with a severe sight problem. Having poor or no sight for all or most of your life is even more traumatic with a whole lot more problems! Going to school or college, finding employment, trying to fit in to a sighted world is not easy and usually impossible. Play is a vital part of growing up; here at Vi-Ability, everything we do is specifically tailored to meet the needs of each individual child. The young members are in a safe and accessible environment where they are involved in everything we do including the planning of activities. As we are run entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers, every pound raised goes directly to providing a fun packed programme of various games and activities that teach the children important skills to become more confident and independent adults. Your support is needed to help us to keep what has become a vital service to our young members. In return for your support, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to enrich the quality of life for the children and young people of Tyneside who are suffering from sight loss. We thank you for your much needed support and we hope that you’ll never have cause to need our service.

It is the northern half of the 1.8 km stretch of beach that runs from the base of Long Reef headland to Dee Why headland. The beach faces South East and has great waves for surfing and swimming, making it a very popular beach. It is ideal for surf club activities as the beach is partly protected by an offshore reef (Long Reef). Long Reef Beach is patrolled every weekend during September through to April of each year. Most Sydney Northern Beaches operate on roughly the same times- so feel free to visit our beach during our ‘safe’ hours.
