THE CHARTER. We're used to churches being converted into pubs and flats - but this project bucks the trend. 'The Charter' on Tollcross Road in Glasgow, had a reputation for illegal and criminal activities and had lost it's licence. During the time it was vacant it suffered from vandalism and theft as well as damage by water and pigeons. The Charter is situated at the centre of a residential area which lacks a community focal point and the people at Parkhead Nazarene Church saw a great opportunity to invest in a new area and bring more life and vibrancy to the community. Parkhead Nazarene purchased the building and plan to transform it into a community hub, open as often as possible, creating a welcoming space in the heart of the community. The Church longs to find ways to serve and bless the community by listening and responding to the needs of those who live there. The use of its facilities by and for the community has always been one of the church’s core purposes. At the heart of what it does is the belief that God offers to everyone forgiveness, peace, joy, purpose, love, meaning in life and the promise of heaven when life is over, by entering and experiencing a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Please help us as we raise the money to renovate The Charter, and support us in this exciting project.
It works with African Artisan Groups - mainly in Tanzania - providing them with working tools that have been collected and renovated by volunteers in Wales. It also sells lovingly-refurbished hand tools to people in UK, from the workshop or at events and festivals. It has a strong volunteer ethic.
