PAWS was founded in 2005 to improve veterinary care on Paxos, support winter feeding of the island’s cats and introduce an education programme. It arose in response to an appreciation by its founders and the mayor of the poor state of animal welfare on this beautiful but isolated Greek island that had no regular veterinary facilities but a large population of domestic and feral cats. Since 2005, PAWS is delighted to report that it has treated over 8000 animals and neutered over 5500 cats. Regular teams of vets and nurses visit each year to carry out neutering and health checks on all the animals of Paxos. In 2013, the municipality offered us a building in Magazia rent free that we converted into a permanent clinic. With financial help from several sponsors in the UK and Greece, PAWS has become an established and successful animal welfare organisation......long may this continue!
