All fees are paid directly to the schools involved and the Foundation provides a range of support, from making a contribution to School Fees to paying the entire amount plus paying for other requirements – uniforms, trips for example. Where possible, the Foundation expects parents or other relatives to make a contribution to the costs of sending their children to school – and for the parents to have a lifestyle enabling them to save what little money they may have to contribute to their child’s education. It is no good for parents to squander their money while the Foundation is paying the costs. Children are sponsored from Nursery through Seniour 6, and in a few deserving cases beyond. The goal is to get the children educated and economically active so they will be in a position to give something back – by helping those children who come after them. The Foundation monitors the performance of the children carefully, both to ensure attendance to keep track of their progress in terms of academic performance and social development. We try to instil in the children that they are very fortunate to get the opportunity to attend school – unlike so many others. The Foundation was set up by Sunita Treacher who is passionate about education as a way out of poverty for children in Uganda. While an education is no guarantee of success, a lack of education is certainly a bar to any kind of progress. Without education, children will be condemned, at best, to being day labourers or house girls, for example. These are low paid, if at all, and offer extremely limited chances for social progress. Therefore, education is key. The Foundation relies on donations from the public and the efforts of its unpaid staff who contribute their time and energy, particularly in Uganda, to make the Foundation a success. PLEASE DONATE GENEROUSLY The Sunita Treacher Foundation needs to raise £15,000 per year to fund the needs of the children it supports in Uganda. We have decided to work with Virgin Giving as a way to access more donors and get the message across to a wider audience. Please give what you can. It costs about £600 per year to send a child to school. That is not a lot, at least compared to school fees in the United Kingdom, and getting an education in Uganda makes a HUGELY POSITIVE impact on a child’s life. We thank you in advance for your support.
